Probably due to the Climate change and the reduction in the northern polar ice pack and increase in the southern polar ice pack. Southern hemisphere is reporting milder winters and falls than they had in the 80's to 90's. Makes one wonder if the planet is just swapping storms in a normal cycle of climate adjustment. So in otherwords, you can expect these storms through 2020 before it goes back south unless you like Climate change than it is here for good till we have a total IceAge happen.

You must be glad to have done the cement work on the shop, not only warmer, but probably kept the rodents out who might have gone looking for warm safe dry place to live. Glad to hear you are OK as with everyone. Hope you can make some good money on the clean up work that is needed.

So after chopping it up and getting a year of drying out, next winters fire wood?

WOW, Either the other Auto Companies are truly using the storm to destroy this company or they really have an electrical problem. I know there are news stories from the electrical company about shorts in the underground electrical vaults that have been submerged in salt water as to why they turned off other vaults to keep them from exploding. Yet here you have a new car, not charging and when saltwater touches it, it goes boom and burns down. Sounds like a Total Recall for a re-engineering of the electrical system. I would be surprised if the Gov allows these fire bombs on the roads.

I would have to agree to disagree with this comment as it depends on the auto. I can say I have driven FWD and RWD with traction control and it actually caused more frustration in select situations than when it was turned off. I have also had entry level AWD cars that just suck due to poor sensors, quality, etc Just a piss poor implemenation of AWD. Then you have the Caddilac/Subaru's AWD that just seems to be freakin amazing on ICE, Snow, Excessive water, etc. I have yet to find a weakness in these AWD systems even when pushed in poor weather situations where most people would not push it. I have played with the Caddilac system and can say that the setup of AWD on ice or snow is amazing and does give one far better confidence when driving knowing how the auto will react and that the electronic system can respond faster than a human. Traction control when properly implemented can be a blessing to maintain control.

Can I have a Cuda and Road Runner Please!

Have to say that while I know they need to sell an A and B class cars to get buyers in to step up hopefully, I just do not see Luxury being FWD. Call me a snob, but Luxury cars should be at the ATS/BMW 3 series and above. Focus and stay there, do not try to be all things to everyone. Mercedes should use their Smart line to have the subcompact to small entry size cars and let Mercedes be the medium and higher level. Same with BMW, let Mini be the subcompact up to Small and let BMW be the 3 series and above. Their 1 series should be in the Mini house not BMW house.

Subaru News: Subaru Unveils The WRX and WRX STI Special Editions
G. David Felt replied to William Maley's topic in Subaru
Very Cool, I have to admit that I have always had a special place in my heart for these cars even though I will never own one due to it being non american and way to small to fit me but I will say the pics here are very cool indeed. http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2013-subaru-wrx-and-wrx-sti-special-editions/#photo-5397571/ Rock On Subaru, you keep everyone else on their toes for AWD fun. Wish GM would have a spicy pocket rocket like this for Chevy. I think it would sell very well.- 1 reply

I disagree, we will see better cars, the death of some of our own loved brands will free up dollars for the remaining brands to finally be distinctive. Color me skeptical... Yes it has been close to 4 years and you both have a solid right to be skeptical, but lets look at the last four years. World Economy in a DEPRESSION - No one will convince me that we came out of the 2007 crash in early 2009. The US is only finally getting righted this year and with the large drop in personal debt, the next 4 years are going to be good. Countries in Europe are imploding, people are still cautious and with this, GM is only now being able to bring to market products that are competitors with the rest of the best. GM is at a starting point for such a large company that now is the time to make sure Chevy, Buick, GMC and Caddy have a solid foundation. We have to make sure our house is built on ROCK not Sand and then we can explore limited production runs of quality individual auto's that meet niche markets that are profitable. Example, With a solid Stable, I can see taking the Camero base with an ELCamino body to meet the needs of the niche market. Yes it will probably be a bit more expensive than a mass produced auto, but if the quality and package is right, those that love this style of auto will get what they want and GM can build it for a profit not a lose. This goes for all departments/divisions. Just have to keep the drive on maintaining profitable quality driven products and with that you can then have your niche projects. GM will get there.

GM News: GM and PSA Announce Four New Co-Developed Platforms
G. David Felt replied to William Maley's topic in General Motors
Yep! I think that how 'co-developed' should be interpreted here: GM does the bulk of the platform engineering work, PSA adapts to their needs. Add in the merge of Opel into PSA so a reduction of capacity and expense as you go with the global platform that PSA can use to build and sell quality auto's. GM uses to build and sell quality auto's everywhere and the cost goes down allowing more people to afford an auto.- 16 replies

Pioneering scientists turn fresh air into petrol
G. David Felt replied to SAmadei's topic in Industry News
Bringing this up is like comparing fuel economy to cup holders. Gasoline packs the highest reasonably safe power density.Electricity/Batteries do not. The Volt marketing does not tout the ability for the Volt to forsake the electrical cord and run on butterfly farts because, at present, you cannot buy a Volt ready to run on butterfly farts or the parts to convert the Volt to use butterfly farts. And it will take a decade for GM to engineer these changes and get the EPA and PETA to play along. In the meantime, somebody discovers a way to make economic synthetic gasoline and all GM's Volt technology becomes an overgrown E-Assist (for butterfly farts). Sythetic gas is like cold fusion, not a true thing yet and we have a far superior logical step. NATURAL GAS, or CNG. The Volt is a perfect way to move to auto's that have a kinder foot print on the planet and what really needs to happen is for GM to do the Volt in Car, CUV, MiniVan and Small Truck platform but use a CNG Generator. This way you have a very high density of power since CNG is 130 Octane right from the ground and is very clean only 1/3 the polution of Gas. The US has the worlds largest reserves and we can get long distance auto's with very clean emissions. -
Totally agree, Fiat screwed the Pooch once and never again. After all the US and GM has done, time to move forward with other companies that are actually set on being honorable.

Should GM build a "Premium" version of the LT1 for Cadillac?
G. David Felt replied to dwightlooi's topic in Cadillac
I think this could work for Caddy once they address the other needs in the product line. -

Back again...GS style this time
G. David Felt replied to caddycruiser's topic in Member's Rides Showcase
I would disagree, not all colors look good on all cars and of course it is subjective as I do not think everything looks that great. -
Wow, that is pretty sad to have that many outages in 45 days.

My Toronado can make it through fairly deep snow just fine thanks. I have pushed snow with the air dam on my HHR with no problem with only all season tires in the snow belt of the great lakes. . For those of us that love to drive, we can drive any 2wd appliance in any weather and do fine. The problem and reason for more people to go to AWD is that more and more people do not care about driving and they only see it as an appliance to get from point A to point B safely. So by making the auto safer, they can just get in and do a lemmings drive. My son is like me and enjoys driving and yet my daughter has an AWD Durango as she just wants to get around as safe as possible here and haul her friends and not have to think about it. To quote her, after having driven both our Escalade and our Trailblazer SS AWD SUV's, she feels safer and more planted in all forms of weather and it reduces her stress of worring about loss of traction. She wants to get in and go and talk with her friends rather than worry about if the auto has traction. In this case, an AWD SUV/CUV is perfect for her.

GM News: GM and PSA Announce Four New Co-Developed Platforms
G. David Felt replied to William Maley's topic in General Motors
Now that's a thought! If GM and PSA did co-develop something equivalent to VW's MQB platform, it could underpin basically everything from the Sonic to the Malibu/Regal and possibly even the LaCrosse/Impala. Not to mention the next Encore and Theta replacements. Then, hopefully GM would use Alpha which should be flexible enough for several Cadillac's (hopefully the next SRX again), Camaro, and whatever other small RWD vehicles they have worked up. If GM can come up with two standardized global platforms that loose weight and offer the right balance of strength, rigidity and flexibility, They could do well then to have this cover their FWD appliances and RWD appliances and then sell it to less funded auto companies who need a diverse platform to build cars on.- 16 replies
