  1. When your rebuilding a brand and their image, I can understand the desire to have a halo car like a 2 door convertible, but I think that is a waste of money at this time and there are better options to sink R&D into for expanding models that will have a greater impact on the Cadillac line. The coupes and diesels / Hybrid power trains will be better for Cadillac than the convertible. That can be done down the road when profits are deeper.
  2. The 300 is a luxury car... Do you guys think I should have included Buick? Except the Verano and Encore, most of their cars sticker predominatnly over $30. Even the Regal which is under $30k MSRP for the most basic model heads north of that as soon as the destination charge is added. I think it would be good to clearly define the mid luxury segment from the high luxury segment.
  3. you do know that Suzuki is one of the top 2 car seller in Japan, number one in India, and number 9 it is I believe the world? They might be tops in a couple markets and might be tops in a market segment in Japan. Having gone to college there, you do not see Suzuki on the roads as much as you see Honda and Toyota. India I see more Suzuki motorcycles than auto's on the road since I travel there to work with an engineering team often.
  4. I disagree. Remember when FORD tried to harp on the fact that they never got bailed out and the federal government told them to back off? There are some people who think that GM and Chrysler should have died nearly five years ago. GM is much better off having no financial relationship with Treasury. I agree that any business is better off not having a relationship with the gov, but if you take a bail out, it should be paid back penny for penny, not at a loss. I also do not think FORD is better off for going the route they went. They have many quality problems still and they still have a large amount of debt that will make it much harder down the road. I still see large executive payout and only a token payment onto debt. I have to question FORD long term thinking.
  5. Olds Vista Cruiser Station wagon
  6. I have to say that I have found N2 to in extreme cold go lower requiring more N2 to be added to the tire. I know that Costco uses it but the expense of buying N2 and that not everyone uses it in addition to my own air pump at home. I just mix it.
  7. Sad, I wish the GOV had a long term interest in the growth of GM and held onto the shares as it would have paid back 100% if not more eventually.
  8. I see many tow truck drivers use speed dollys as they pull rear drive auto's.
  9. Suzuki should have never gotten into cars. Every Japan company thinks they have to do everything and this has hurt more than helped their economy especially in the last 15 years.
  10. That is cool to hear that it is that cheap. That would be a no brainer for me also.
  11. Susuki Samurai smashed against the K rail this morning due to ice on the road. Have to say it is good to see the SS, but those pictures just confirm what I have felt in my gut. Bland and not at all inspiring. DOA for the SS.
  12. So to me the BIG QUESTION? Would it make more sense for GM to kill off the Chevy, Opel and Vauxhall name plates and come up with a new name plate for a auto company focused on the Euro market that would appeal to the Euro Customer? This would then have no history and could have a clean plate to start from.
  13. With this CUV having a diesel, I could see the Encore Diesel being a 40K Auto.
  14. I think only high volume Chevy dealers should be allowed to order this anyway just like the ZR1 corvette. This is not a mass crowd auto and so should be at the largest dealerships as a halo product. Those will find select people who are interested in buying a limited edition auto.
  15. With the auto packages that OEM's are pushing such as the Platinum edition, it makes FORD have more Luxury versions than Lincoln.
  16. Interesting, has some style aspects that are interesting but lately I see allot of Animation type style in the auto's out of Japan. I know animation is one of their inventions but do they have to animate everything?
  17. The mileage based system has been heavily discussed here in Washington state and what I threw out was what some are looking at. While I can see the merits of both a consumption or mileage system. There should not be both. For pure EV's, it would make sense to have these auto's taxed by miles so they pay their share of road costs.
  18. Nothing Like Dreaming BIG!!!
  19. We'll I think the next year will show if this is solid across the whole family or not for Cadillac.
  20. whatwhatWHAT?? I pay about $110/yr in state & Fed fuel tax, I need that to jump to $1500 like I need a 4-ton meteorite to smash my truck flat. And Jersey spends more/mile in road maintenance than any other state IIRC- you would only find zero support for something like that here! Those amounts are insanely higher than even the highest state fuel tax. If I lived in Wash State, I'd pay around $310. You are just begging for abuse & corruption with that level of a revenue gusher. I realize that these might be high and probably could even be adjusted down. I just put together a starting point of what a Mileage tax system would be like. So even if we cut the rates in half, I think it is still a far better way to go than fuel tax. This makes it a pay as you go system rather than the Milk you as you buy gas.
  21. Hi Drew, I use auto loosely so that it also includes SUV's and trucks. So yes GMC 2500 truck would be in the 7500lbs class as would a Denali XL or Suburban or Escalade ESV I believe would also be in that class.
  22. I would like to see all Gas Tax go away and a move to Mileage tax. Cost per year is based on driving 15,000 miles Auto Class Tax 0 - 3000lbs - $.05 per mile = $750.00 3001 - 5000lbs - $.075 per mile = $1125.00 5001 - 7500lbs - $.10 per mile = $1500.00 7501 - 15,000lbs - $.125 per mile = $1875.00 Commercial Class tax 15,000 - 50,000lbs - $.15 per mile = $2250.00 50,001lbs - unlimited $.20 per mile = $3000 Flat rate for GOV vehicles $1000 per auto up to 15,000lbs $1500 per commercial class auto Remember that this could go up or down based on how much you drive. So people that only drive 3-5K miles a year would pay considerably less. I also feel the exemption that City, county and state vehicles get is wrong, they put wear and tear on the roads and should have to help pay for that. I feel many Fire and Police departments allow the employees to drive department auto's at tax payers expense calling it a perk of the job. This does not exist in many private industry jobs and should not exist in the gov sector. All people should get to the job before driving a company, gov supplied auto. I believe this would greatly reduce run away cost from departments that allow even a secretary to have a tax payer supplied auto and gas card.
  23. I am amazed by what you post some times. You must truly drink deeply 3 times a day from the BMW & MB coolaid bowl. I will say that Audi auto's do not look anything like VW here and they are very nice inside and out compared to the cheap stuff VW makes. I have found many Audi auto's to be nicer with better fit and finish than BMW and MB. Both of them have been sitting on their history. It was funny to see at the local GMC / Buick Dealership that they had 7 BMW 3 series that were from 1 to 3 yrs old and 5 MB that were all 2 years old traded in. I would say more people are realizing they can get great auto's that drive equal to what BMW & MB puts out without the crazy cost of ownership or the poor quality. +1 Putting in the 2.8 L Duramax would be an awesome engine for the Encore to get.
  24. That will truly force me to continue to hold onto my older auto's. I refuse to be a lemming in a foam cooler. If auto's go the way of the movie Time Cop that has no windows and is self driving, that will be a sad day. I challenge the true impact safety of these higher doors. I think they can be built with more green house and still offer the same protection.
  25. First off the SS is DOA (Dead on Arrival). Why????? They did not hold to the concept enough to really make this a striking auto in consumers eyes. While you have plenty of power, I do not see this as a differentiator to truly set it as a Niche vehicle. Cost are already high to get this auto out of aussy land. Second is GM Performance should have built the SS here in America. If they really wanted a family 4 door sedan to excite the masses they should have built it here off one of the existing platforms as an AWD SS. Either the Impala or Malibu so that it had a link to the chevy portfolio.,
