This is an article I found on Wikipedia, that changed my thoughts on leaf springs.

not mentioned in the article is the fact that the Cutlass Supreme coupe and convertible also used a transverse, composet leaf spring.

Yep- the Mach 5 is still on her first one, the factory spring. It does make it tricky to raise/lower the rear suspension, tho.
