Porsche’s Sub-Boxster May Not See The Light Of Day

Last week, we reported on the Volkswagen BlueSport being delayed to company not being able to find enough sales to justify building it. The delay is causing headaches for both Audi and Porsche who were going to build sister models. Now, it looks like Porsche could be pushing back or even ending the project.

Porsche CEO Matthias Mueller told German publication Wirtschaftswoche the company plans on delaying the mid-engine sub-Boxster for the time being due to worries that the car could dilute the brand's image.

''Possibly we need to wait until the next generation of customers before the idea of a small roadster will work for Porsche,'' Muller said.

I would think they do not a need a sub boxster, unless CAFE is what is driving this.

They can always have an entry level version of the Boxster IMO, and that will always still possess all that is good about the Porsche brand.

Boxster or Cayman vs. Vette would be an extremely hard choice for me if i came into money and wanted a sports car.....

I think Porsche could get away with a Sub-Boxster in the US quite easily. Look at how well the original Z3 sold until BMW jacked the price up. Share it on a VW platform and price it starting at about 32k with a smallish turbo-4

    • Yeah, their lineup does absolutely nothing for me. I'm sure they're adequate vehicles, but why buy them over a Chevy or GMC? Why have a whole separate brand for lazy badge-engineered vehicles?  If they at least offered powertrain options that aren't available on their Chevy or GMC counterparts, I could get behind them more. Maybe offer conventional hybrids, plug-in hybrids or more powerful tunes of their respective turbo engines. SOMETHING to differentiate them.
    • No, Buick today is just a bunch of ugly generic CUVs.  Nothing unique or memorable, just bland appliances. Likely well built and reliable, but 0% style.  Buick has lost the plot.
    • Doh, Yup, my bad, I was fast looking at the spec and see I looked at the regular. Good catch. CX-9 is still cramped on the Komodo dragon bang your head getting in and the way they design the seats. It is Cramped. This is also why I have not bought a newer Escalade as GM changed the way the seats work and they are cramped also as the seats do not go down and back as far as they do in my 2006 Escalade. Course with no support for AA / AP it is dead on arrival for all GM EVs. In regards to the 2026 Lexus GX, better as they have de-emphasized the Predator Mouth grill, but still this is Ugly to me.
    • The same 6' 6" person who could "honestly" fit comfortably in the back seat of a Bolt but was cramped in a CX-9.  I'm not much of a Lexus fan, but the new GX is freakin GREAT looking.
    • Ummm, what? How do you undershoot the measurement of YOUR OWN SUV by almost two feet in length? Exactly how drunk does one have to be to believe that a mid-size overdressed Camry is longer than an overdressed Suburban from 2006? Help it make sense. Agree. I've seen the higher trims of this (online, of course) and while the interior colors in those are better than what's pictured here, the overall look from the outside to the inside is a mix bag, at best.
